A Personal Account of Driving Instructors

I was excited to learn that I’m finally going to get my driving license. It would be my ticket to freedom as I could go anywhere at any time of the day and not having to depend on anyone anymore. I was somehow both very excited and nervous at the same time. However, I must first learn to drive from a driving instructor.

So, what you should really be ready for when you’re about to go for your driving lessons are not the complicated techniques to handle your vehicle when on the road but rather your instructor’s tortures, torments and insults that he unleashes upon you. It would be really difficult to contain yourself from actually lashing out at him when you are trying to figure out which of the 3 pedals to press on. For every single mistake that you make, there would 100 hissy fits coming at you.

Instead of making you comfortable, you end up being more afraid than ever, in a state of panic and constantly uttering apologies for the damages you caused to his already dilapidated car. But still I don’t seem to be able to understand the reason behind all of this anger and grumpiness. I believe one of the traits that a great educator should posses, be it a school teacher, a pastry master, a music teacher or in our case a driving instructor is patience. I’m sure everyone would agree with me when I say that by yelling at someone you won’t necessarily succeed in getting them to master something. I can understand if one should say that maybe they are just exhausted after facing one after another novice driver but that is no reason to be rude to someone.

I’m sharing this not to scare you off from learning to drive but more of a what-to-expect-if-you-meet-a-devil-instructor. If your driving instructor is a well – mannered, courteous man, then give it a rest. A final piece of advice, just learn to put up with the attitude because your main goal is to learn how to drive so that you can get that driving license. Then, freedom will smile upon you.
