All About Gurren Lagann

Gurren Lagann originated in Japan as an anime television program which unveiled 27 episodes. The story occurs in the future where people are made to reside by themselves underground. The villagers have no connection with the exterior world and due to recurring earthquakes are made to dig further into the world, those provided the path of digging are called "Diggers". This community is home to an orphaned little one named Simon, whose parents were killed in an earthquake. Simon is known by the other folks as the best of the diggers, he is however unliked by his acquaintances. After talking to an orphan referred to as Kamina, who dreams of returning to the surface world, that he once went to as a child, he is recruited into his group "Team Gurren". Kamina is soon locked up by a village elder after his failed try to reach the surface. Simon will soon unveil the path to effectively smash through the surface.

As the lagann entourage moves through to the surface they are faced by enemies and friends as they move on their journey. For the duration of their mission, Kamina is impaired and soon dies, leaving Team Gurren to fight the encounter without him. A statue of Kamina lingers in the middle of a fresh town constructed among the toils of the old capitol, appropriately named Kamina City.

There is a video game available. Also a number of novels based on the magna. The movie, called Gurren Lagann: Childhood's End is now for purchase on digital video disc.
