Bedroom Concept

The concept of bedrooms as a distinct part of the house came up centuries ago as the size of the place to stay became bigger. The earliest men lived in caves, eating, sleeping and cooking in the same place. Gradually the system of having a demarcated area for sleeping and cooking evolved, and thus the first bedrooms were born. A bedroom is a very private part of the house used for rest, relaxation, sleeping and getting ready. The number of bedrooms in the home help to decide who gets them singly and who has to share. Thus the husband-wife get what is called the master bedroom and the children share the other bedrooms. The master bedroom is generally the biggest of the rooms with the best things including furniture. The current trend is to treat the bedroom as a stylish place where one can recharge one's energies with its calm, serene and peaceful ambience that can be created with the right trimmings.

A room gets defined as a bedroom on the basis of its usage and the furniture and accessories placed there. Thus, the bedroom typically contains a large bed, a dresser, wardrobes, nightstands and some accessories for decoration. There are many who use bedrooms only for resting and getting ready for the day. Bedrooms often have attached bathroom as this helps ensure privacy. However, lots of people treat bedrooms as sitting rooms as well. Such people are likely to furnish their bedrooms with some seating arrangements, like a sofa set or easy cha and an entirely different set of accessories. The color pink is associated with girls, and their bedroom is likely to have accessories and furnishings in various shades of pink, while boys' rooms would be dominated by multiple shades of blue. Girls would opt for dolls and dollhouses, while boys are sure to basketballs and Spiderman accessories among others, in theirs. The problem arises when a boy and girl have to share a room. Then the choice is of more neutral shades like white, beige, cream, yellow and so on, simply to avoid discord among siblings as they grow.

If the space in the home permits, it is ideal to have a guest bedroom as well so that children are not uprooted from their domain where visitors come to stay. The guest bedroom need not be too large or as fancy. It has to be functional and must have comfortable beds, some seating place, mirror, dresser and a wardrobe. It may be the least used room in the house, and can often double as a sitting room if a television is added to it.
