Build a Boat that Will Float

Your first and most important tool is a building plan.
In addition to a building plan you will need other supplies. Plywood, a circular saw, and fiberglass tape. Also duct tape, paint and varnish are essential. Be sure to buy the best quality materials. These may be slightly more expensive, but your life is worth it. Once you have determined what you will need you must find a large well lit space to work. You don’t want there to be flaws in your boat because of lack of space or poor lighting. Every step you save could be dangerous. While obviously not as dangerous it is equally important to follow the plan if you choose to build a model sailboat.
Follow all of these steps when you build a sailboat, plus any suggested steps on your plan. Mark your plywood, cut, and assemble according to the instructions on your plans. Be sure all parts are secure. Allow boat to dry completely. Next use the epoxy to seal the boat. Start with the inside and then after it has dried move on to the outside. This will keep your boat from leaking. Paint the boat your desired color with a waterproof paint and allow it to dry thoroughly. You have almost completed building your sailboat.
Assemble and attach the sail to your boat. Instructions for this will be in your plans. Add your safety equipment and prepare to launch. If you are new to sailing make sure sailboats’ are allowed on the lake of your choice. The first few times you go out take an experienced sailor with you. These actions will help to keep you and those around you safe.
Now that you know how to build a sailboat there this one more thing to consider: Safety is of the utmost importance on the water. To help keep your boat above water just remember: S.A.I.L: Safety and Intelligence Lives!
