Cerkno Ski Resort in Slovenia, appropriate for beginners and intermediate skiers
Posted: 26.11.2008 | Views: 163Additionally, Cerkno has plenty to do for adults too, largely the ones looking for some peace and quiet. You'll have no problem running from your troubles here as there are only 2,000 townspeople-a lot of space and not a lot of commotion. The Cerkno Hills and Cerkno town will keep the scenery abuzz as there are four valleys: Poljane Valley to Idrijca Valley and Soca Valley and the Selca Valley. The tallest hill in the area is actually the Porezen Mountain and it touches the sky around 1630 meters. The whole Cerkno ski area goes from as low as 900 meters to as high as 1300 meters. You'll always have mountains in the distance.
Despite the fact that Cerkno has 20 individual pistes and relatively low altitude skiing, you'll be surprised to find out that they can carry a remarkable number of holiday skiers. There are eight different lifts serving all the slopes. A four-seater chairlift, for example, travels over 1700 meters with an altitude variance of 326 meters. This chairlift can carry 2800 skiers per hour! Moreover, there is a six-seater chairlift that runs for 1100 meters up in altitude with a variance of 290 meters. This six-seater can carry 2400 skiers and snowboarders an hour. The six other ski lifts can carry 7696 skiers per hour. The total hourly number of skiers that can be carried up the slopes at Cerkno is just shy of 13,000. Cerkno ski resort really keeps the lines moving posthaste, so you won't have to wait long for your turn.
There are 18 kilometers of runs that are always well groomed. There are paths for every skill level, though the intermediates will get the most paths with over 7000 meters of runs. There is about another 6000 meters of paths for the middle-grade skier as well. The easiest paths will give beginners about 5000 meters of ski runs, while cross-country ski lovers will have about five kilometers of trails. An intermediate skier who likes to take time off for some accessible cross-country skiing would love Cerkno too. Those looking for the challenging rides of their lives and hundreds of pistes to choose from may find Cerkno a bit less appealing.
Some of the slopes in the area include some easy slopes, catering to beginners and families who wish to improve their skill and knowledge of skiing. The Gric 1 and the Dolina-2, for instance, are very easy slopes for beginners and families alike. In fact, you'll see both on this slope. One step above these two slopes is the Lom-4, Brdo-6 and the Pocivalo-5. These slopes, by way of example, are easy and not at all steep. They are for taking it easy and for having fun. The two slopes that are far more advanced are the Brdo-7 and the Davca-9. Both slopes are fast, high and challenging, much like the Lom-3 and Gozd-8-two of the hardest and steepest in Cerkno. In order to tackle these two slopes, you better be ready to cut through some serious powder.
Cerkno Slovenian ski resort only has about 70 full days of skiing a year; however, even though it is lower in altitude, the slopes will always be covered in snow. The 55 snow cannons keep the slopes in full slippery fun as you and your kids learn and become more daring to try more challenging ski runs. The groomed ski area specifically is quite massive given the size of Cerkno in general. The groomed parts of Cerkno, including the snowboarding and some of the cross-country skiing, covers over 70 hectares. There is plenty of room, then, even during the high season; and even then, the prices will allow you and your family to come and enjoy the fun for weeks at a time.
Prices for skiing at Cerkno start for your kids at about €80. Youth only have to pay about €20 more while adults, of course, pay the most at €115. But wait, here is the surprise: These prices are for a full six-day ski pass for the entire Cerkno ski area resort. You're best to pay the six-day price, however, even if you only plan on staying for four or five days, as the prices per day are a bit pricier. A child is going to cost around €22, with youth paying about €27 and adults paying €32 per day for example. The longer time you can spend skiing at Cerkno, the more it will pay off. Additionally, it's possible to pay in block hours-two, four or six hours and so on. The better deal, still however, is to pay by the block week or two weeks. You'll save you and your family a lot more Euros if you can plan further in advance.
