While they’ve been having a hard time penetrating the Indian market with their devices, RIM has decided to start production of the device itself in India. The location & facility details have not been yet made clear. Looks like things are still in the starting phase.

Jim Balsille was in India recently and said that they are on the lookout for manufacturing and logistics in India. He was in Mumbai and Delhi meeting with various people and policymakers on what it would take for RIM to setup manufacturing facilities in India.

India is known to have a great manufacturing workforce that is talented at craftsmanship. RIM is clearly looking at some cost-savings by trying to move their manufacturing to India. Cheaper handsets could mean that 1) they can show more profit for their stockholders and 2) give more wireless carrier subsidy in markets like USA, where the smartphone competition is getting stiffer by the day, given the many new devices are starting to trump the BlackBerry.

The BlackBerry Bold 9000 Smartphone features a half-VGA (480x320 pixel resolutions) and a 65,000-color display. The Bold is in reference to the Smartphone gorgeous display. RIM BlackBerry Bold is equipped with a 624MHz Intel PXA270 processor for smoother and faster performance. BlackBerry Bold is quad-band (GSM 850/900/1800/1900), but the most appetizing and notable item is the HSDPA/UMTS (850/1900/2100) support. Also it has integrated Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g), Bluetooth 2.0 with full A2DP support, and built-in GPS (enhanced and assisted).

The new BlackBerry Bold also features BlackBerry productivity applications, including phone, e-mail, messaging, organiser and browser, a 2 megapixel camera with video recording capability, built-in flash and 5x digital zoom. The BlackBerry Bold smartphone (model number: 9000) is scheduled to be available from wireless carriers around the world from this summer.

The new handset also has support for downloading music directly from Rogers MusicStore and instant messaging with BlackBerry Messenger, Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger and Yahoo! Messenger. Premium phone features include voice activated dialling, enhanced noise cancellation, a low-distortion speakerphone, Bluetooth (2.0) support for hands-free use, BlackBerry Internet Service support and BlackBerry Enterprise Server support.
