GATE is the gate for entering Masters and Doctoral programmers

The Indian Institute of Science and seven Indian Institutes of Technology jointly conduct Graduate Aptitude Test (GATE) for Engineering students. On behalf of National Coordination Board – GATE, the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, the test is organised at national level. For regulating the examination and declaring the results, GATE committee is the only responsible authority, which involves representatives from administering institutes. For GATE 2010, Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati is assigned as an organising institute. This institute is going to look after the full responsibility related to coordination of GATE 2010.

Admission into postgraduate programmes with MHRD and some other government assistantships/ scholarships in engineering institutes/ colleges can be acquired by GATE qualifying candidates. Eligibility for admission into Doctoral/ Master programmes in Architecture/ Technology/ Engineering as well as Doctoral programmes in other related Science branches with MHRD or other government assistantships / scholarships is Bachelor’s degree in Technology/ Engineering/ Architecture or Master’s degree in any area of Mathematics/ Science/ Computer Applications/ Statistics. The students, who secure a place into a postgraduate programme, according to the existing procedure of the relevant institution, are eligible for scholarship as well. However, Candidateects by CSIR. Students coming to the top in some of the GATE papers can apply for “Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Fellowship”, which is given by CSIR. Prerequisite for an Engineer or Scientist at government organisation is sometimes GATE.

A huge number of aspirants go for the test, but for sure the qualifying number is very less in comparison. Hence, GATE papers of previous years can save you from failing the test. Comprehension:

GATE sample Papers this segment test basic knowledge of candidate about his/ her field. You need to extract simple conclusions from the fundamental ideas.

Recall

GATE paper's this section plays with principles, facts, laws or formula of the discipline. The candidate is suggested to get the answer out of on-line computation or his / her subject memory.

Synthesis and Analysis

GATE papers of linked type, where you have to answer out of the question pair, and one answer is needed to solve the other. Or two questions share the same data, but they can be answered independently.

Application

In this section of GATE Question Paper, you can apply your knowledge either by logical reasoning or computation.

Linked answer questions

The first answer is taken as an intermediate step, in process of solving the second one.
