Head to country music festival as part of trip to Australia

While Australia may not usually be associated with country music, the nation has been hosting a world-famous country festival for the past 37 years.

Festivals are much more fun with a big gang and so group travel to the Tamworth Music Festival could be great for visitors to Australia who head to the nation in January.

Using a hostel in Sydney as a base, tourists can take in all the world-famous sights of the city, from the Sydney Opera House to the Harbour Bridge. Take a stroll around the well-known harbour and soak up the sunshine, or just watch the world go by and make the most of being in an interesting and beautiful city.

However, for those who want to get out of the city, head out onto the open road and see a different side to Australia, a trip to the Tamworth Country Music festival, held in a city around 400 kilometres drive from Sydney, could be perfect.

Tamworth has been holding the famous festival in January every year since 1973 but it is not just the country event that people head to the area for. It is steeped in history relating to the country music scene and is home to the Country Music Gallery of Stars Wax Museum and also boasts the Country Music Hands of Fame Cornerstone.

Each year, the Tamworth mayor opens the festival with a party in the city's Bicentennial Park, which features performances from several of the names on the festival's bill as well as poetry readings and dance shows.

After heading to the city to take in the sights and sounds of another part of Australia, holidaymakers can go back to their Sydney hostel and get ready to head out for a night to make the most of the Sydney bar scene.
