How I Got to Page 1 of Google for My Keywords

I've reached the Holy Grail of Internet marketing. I'm on page 1 of Google for my keywords, video virtual tours, which is what I do for a living. And my competition for those keywords are 36,000,000 other sites. If you throw my city name in there, Charlotte, I pretty much own page 1 of Google. I want to share with you how I did it.

A ton of hard work. No – really, it was hard, time consuming, and, at times, frustrating. There was no magic bullet, or Google fairy that came down to visit me. It wasn’t luck, and it wasn’t some unemployed SEO “professional” who offered to get me there for $29.95 / month.

If you want to be on page 1 of a Google search for your keywords, you could pay someone to do it. The problem is that most companies that call themselves SEO pros can't even get their own website on page 1, so why should you use them? On the other hand, I have recently met several very good ones. If you hire one, they are expensive, be prepared to pay, and ask them to prove their prior success to you before giving them a cent. If someone says they can get you on page 1 for a couple hundred bucks, run away.

How about doing it yourself, for free? Here's my success story. My approach is a 2 pronged approach. I blog at least 2 times a week, and I produce videos and upload them to several video hosting sites such as YouTube. In these videos, I provide a link back to my website and I also provide a link back to my website in any blog article I write. The videos syndicate quickly over the internet and 1 video uploaded a few times can syndicate 100's of times, giving you more exposure, and more link-backs. You have to have plenty of quality, fresh content on your website as well. Good content is king!

Also be patient. I’ve had a lot of websites, and none of them ranked well until they were at least a year old. No one knows for sure what weight any given variable has in the Google algorithm, but I am convinced website age is an important factor.

That’s pretty much it. I am not an SEO professional and I do not make any claims that you will be on page 1 after a year of doing the same things I did. I am just sharing what worked for me in hopes that the information might be useful to someone else.

Good luck!
