Many best men dread the part where they would have to give their best man speech in front of everyone. Although having this stage fright is very common, this can still be minimized or avoided.

If it is your first time to give a best man speech, some comic relief may actually help you overcome your nervousness. A witty best man speech is something that most people will appreciate hearing from you. In this way, it will be much easier for you to get everybody's attention. If your speech is too serious, you might just bore the crowd. A bored crowd is not the kind of sight that you would want to see. Seeing a bored crowd who can't wait for you to end your speech will just add up to the anxiety level that you are feeling.

If you want to give your best man speech perfectly, do not come to the wedding reception unprepared. Some spontaneity in your speech may be interesting but if you are constantly pausing and trying to ponder of what to say, that might not be a good idea. Taking some sips of alcohol before you give your speech may actually give you that confidence that you need but make sure to stay sober. If you are drunk, most likely, youch, you can always include a witty story or a joke about the groom. However, inside jokes, green jokes, and controversial topics may not be appropriate to say. You do not want to offend anyone who is listening. In addition to that, acknowledge the presence of the bride by saying something about her as well. Highlight both the groom's and the bride's positive traits.

When you give your speech, sound natural. Be yourself. You do not want to look and sound robotic in front of everyone else. End your speech with a toast for the couple.
