Picking out a flat iron is an important part in your straight hair journey! If you don’t pick out the right one for your hair type then your hair style won’t come out as well as it possibly could. Follow some tips below to buy the right flat iron for your hair type.

Thick, Coarse, or Curly Hair

If you have this hair type and it’s above the shoulders then you will want a flat iron between 1” – 1 ½” inches and if it’s longer than shoulder length it should be between 1” and 2”. It’s important to pay attention to the heat settings as well. Because your hair is thicker, it is a good idea to set your flat iron between 380° and 410°. Also you never want to use metal plates. Some better options are ceramic, titanium, or tourmaline.

Therefore some great flat irons that you could use are Sedu Pro Ionic, FHI Heat Platform 1 ¾” or the Brocato VibraSTRAIT 1 ¾”. There are other options out there but these are some of the best for your hair.

Normal, Medium, or Wavy Hair

With this hair type you will want a 1/2’”-1 ¼” flat iron if your hair is above the shoulders and if it is any longer it should be between 1 ¼” and 2”. This type of hair requires a bit less heat but it still needs to be hot so anywhere from 360° to 380° should do the trick. Same as with thick, coarse, or curly hair a flat iron that is ceramic, titanium, ro tourmaline are all good options.

Solia Classic, BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium 1” or 1 ¼” or Keratherapy DIORA Embossed are lovely flat irons to consider for purchase.

Thin or Fine Hair

Any size plate will work for this hair type since it is the easiest to straighten. Because it is so thin, you have to be careful not to use a lot of heat. Make sure that your flat iron is set to below 360° when using it. Unlike the other types of hair, titanium plates are not recommended. For this hair type it is better to stick with ceramic or tourmaline.

Sedu Revolution Compact Styler, CHI Air Classic Tourmaline Ceramic 1” or the T3 SinglePass Styling Iron will all work well with thin hair.

This is only the beginning and only a few suggestions of flat irons that can work well with your hair type. The important part is to follow the plate size and type guidelines in order to pick out one that will straighten your hair well while also protecting it.
