Is Driving in Britain Getting Harder?

Drivers on the roads in Britain will more than likely at some point experience challenges in the form of pot holes, sudden traffic jams and of course not forgetting the regular inclement weather that can at times place the driver at serious risk. Is there anything you can do to make your journeys a little bit safer on the treacherous tarmac in Britain today?

Pot holes are the bane of many motorists’ lives and can cause damage to tyres, exhausts and suspension systems that ultimately the vehicle owner has bare the cost of repairing. In a poll of 17,500 motorists taken by the AA, two thirds of those surveyed had felt that the condition of Britain’s roads had deteriorated in the past 10 years.

Pot holes can be very difficult to spot, especially in the dark but by planning ahead and paying attention to the vehicle immediately in front, you may be able to take evasive action and avoid the unwanted cost of a new tyre.

Wet and windy weather can really play havoc with road conditions, from surface water and flooding to debris and trees lying around on the road itself. One way you can reduce your risk of an accident in wet conditions is to allow a four second gap between you and the car in front. This will give you enough thinking and stopping time to avoid running into the back of another vehicle.

However, in such dangerous road conditions it is often recommended not to travel at all unless it’s absolutely vital. If you’re already out on the roads when bad weather hits, then booking into the nearest accommodation for the night is one solution, or perhaps temporarily taking a break to have a meal somewhere until it passes, which will also help you relax and recharge your batteries.

The condition of many roads in Britain is seen from very low speeds, with congestion and traffic jams rife all across the country during rush hour. This in itself can lead very easily to frustration and accidents so it’s important to try and keep a cool head and at times accept the fact that you can’t do anything about the situation, except be patient and wait for it to clear.

It is important to be both patient and careful on the roads at all times, regardless of the environment you are driving in; and thanks to the internet, arranging online car insurance is quicker and easier than sitting in a traffic jam. After all, as a driver in today’s society, you never know when you might need it!
