The skill of wine making is getting more and more influenced by technology with every passing year. The grape, stumpers of the early days, has been replaced by machineries that extract the grape juice from the wine very gently and without destroying the grape’s skin. However advanced the technology may be, the ultimate quality of the wine resides in the winemaker’s palette.

The wine making process of white wine differs from that of red wine. The main difference lies in the kind of grapes that are used and in the fermentation process. Either black grapes or white grapes are used when white wine is being made. Before the grapes are introduced into the crusher, the skin is removed gently and delicately. After this, to prepare it for fermentation, mold is added to the juice. After this, the juice is strained and poured into stainless steel containers for months. This allows fermentation of the juice.

The process of white wine manufacturing also includes removal of the stalks and stem of the grapes prior to crushing. Removing these delicately is very important as their presence may destroy the quality of the wine. After stipulated months of fermentation, the process must be stopped. To do so, sulfur dioxide is added to the juice. This chemical compound also helps to keep, preserve and protect the wine and its elegant flavor.

The seeds of the grapes must also be separated from the grape juice. Again, you should also remove stray grape skin that may be present in the juice. Removal of these two things constitutes the next step of wine making. After successful and complete removal of these impurities, the wine is poured into the steel tanks or barrels. Mold is added to these barrels to start the process of fermentation for white wine manufacturing.

Determining the period of fermentation is an integral part of the wine manufacturing process. It depends on the type of wine being made. Wines are generally fermented in large oak barrels or steel tanks, as already said. The end of the fermentation process indicates that the wine is now ready to be consumed. However, before consumption, it must be thoroughly checked that the wine is devoid of any residue or impurities that may tamper the taste.

White wine is generally less aged than the red wine. Some may be instantly bottled. Although white wine is bottle straight after fermentation, aging it may add some more taste and great feel.
