Wagyu beef has been a bit of an exotic item in my mind for some time. Wagyu is also known as Kobe Beef in Japan where it was developed from very pampered cattle. The general conception is that this beef is very hard to afford in price. I heard rumors of hundreds of dollars per pound and only bought by wealthy Americans who could afford it.
I thought that just finding Wagyu would be a challenge since it was the forbidden meat in the United States. I discovered that isn’t necessarily the case. I found the site www.efoodschool.com. The site seems to be in search of interesting food and provides visitors with innovative free recipes and information. Although they promise to offer unique tools and gadgets, it looks like they have not loaded all of these tools as of yet. They do offer however a fairly reasonable priced cut of American Wagyu Beef. This sirloin steak is ten ounces and is served totally fresh. The price was more than I usually pay for steaks but I still decided to try it out. I placed my order easy enough and I found the meat wholesale order delivered two days later. The sirloin steaks came in kryovac packages. (A fancy way to say vacuumed sealed). The steaks were well marbled and I could tell the difference in quality compared to the grocery store. To give the steaks their best taste I dusted them with granulated garlic powder, Canadian steak seasoning, and kosher salt. I turned on my gas grill and after it was hot, tossed these beauties on the heat. I read somewhere on the www.efoodschool.com site to allow a little bit of resting of the steaks prior to cutting. Five minutes was all I could stand, and I cut into the most tender sirloin steak I ever had. Now it was not tender like tenderloin, however I know it is not tenderloin steak nor is it a true Kobe steak, it is Wagyu sirloin steak, which has much better flavor. My plan was to freeze the remaining six sirloin steaks however they ended up eaten within four days. I found, to my surprise these beef steaks to be a great buy. The allure of Wagyu beef is now a mainstream feature in my household. I did not think I would be the type to buy my meat wholesale myself online instead of at the grocery store. I can not imagine buying my meat anywhere else.
