While there are several “royal families” across the world that are all descendants of monarchies, there is one in particular “royal family” that is the most talked about family in the press. We’ve all read of the amazing fashion sense of Princess Kate and the wedding of her and Prince William, and most recently have read of the birth of their baby. But where did this family begin and what history does the British royal family have?
This long line of monarchs began in the 18th century, and has been a very notable and prominent family worldwide since this time. People have been fascinated with this family since the beginning of their time as the British rulers. From their extravagant lifestyles, military backgrounds, and the way they relate to commoners, they are truly an interesting family with eyes on them at all times.
One of the most adored members of the royal family was Princess Diana, who was the wife of Charles, Prince of Wales, who was the eldest child and heir of Queen Elizabeth II. Princess Di was well known for her charity work, and unfortunately her and Prince Charles divorced in 1996. Although she was no longer considered an “heir” to the throne, she still remained in the royal family because she was the mother to two of Prince Charles children, William and Harry. Lady Di passed away in a car crash in 1997, and her funeral and tributes were widely broadcasted worldwide during that time.
Both Prince Charles and Diana’s sons, William and Harry, are very talked about among press. William and Kate, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, had an extravagant wedding that was broadcasted live on TV and had some of the highest viewing numbers for any live event. Kate was a commoner, and she was one of the very few to marry into this royal family. Most recently, they have been on a world tour and the attention has been focused on their travels, as well as their newly born son. Harry, William’s bachelor brother, has also been in the spotlight for his military efforts, as well as his courtship of women.
