With this in mind, I tried to figure out how I could put this new paradigm into play.
If we take a look around the gaming site community we see how well this approach has taken off, from IGN to Gamespot, there is an online revolution that is user based. The sites now encourage reviews to create greater overall value to the site visitor, as well as to create another revenue stream. I see this growing exponentially, even into areas that we haven’t begun to imagine. For instance, Viddler video has begun to implement user commentary into its features. The user can insert commentary into any point in the video, and other users can point their mouse over that point and read the commentary. It’s quite an innovative approach that will grow in time.
With user interaction becoming more and more popular, I see a future where “virtuality” is the new reality to a significant portion of the population. The seeds are planted and I plan on seeing this integrated even further with not only community based sites, but also into retailer sites where customers will add video reviews in the user reviews sections ala Buy.com reviews.
All my sites, including my World of Warcraft guide review site, have some allowance of user interaction. It is simply a must in the new paradigm. This is why I felt we needed a new approach to strategy guide reviews, where even the professional writer’s opinion is not interjected. Where only user reviews are used to help visitors determine whether he/she wants to make a purchase, or continue to research information on other sites. Interactivity, the future holds great surprises for the gaming community.
